Meet Dr. Jackie Lewis, an academic coach here at National University! In this guest post, Dr. Lewis tells us a little bit about her experience as a student at National University and the support that she received from the Academic Success Center (ASC), the department that she now works in.

Photo of Dr. Jackie LewisI am an academic writing coach in the Academic Success Center (ASC) and a recent NU graduate. As a graduate student with disabilities, the help and support received from the ASC was most beneficial and uniquely designed to meet my needs! The coaches always encouraged and cheered me through my successes and challenged me to grow. Because of the ASC support, I developed scholarly skills and became a self-directed, confident learner and researcher.

Online students must develop academic scholarly skills and be made aware of the support they need. The learning process takes commitment and persistence. I utilized the ASC over 400 times to take advantage of the coaching services and the resources provided. There is value in students asking for help and seeking meaningful support from the ASC. I am a product of the ASC and a skilled academic coach.

Hear from your colleagues (or instructors) as they share details about the work they are doing and its importance. In our first video, Dr. Tara Rava Zolnikov tells us about her research trip to Brazil as part of a World Health Organization grant.

Watch the video here, and make sure to check out the research paper here.
