The library has put together a new guide to help you learn all about artificial intelligence (AI). You'll find information about the use of generative AI tools in education, AI literacy, ethical use of AI, faculty views on AI, and more. Make sure to also check out our videos on AI, including brief primer videos as well as recorded webinars. Our latest video is the first in a new series called AI Launchpad: Industry Insights that focuses on the use of AI in retail.

Keep an eye out for more content and video updates as we continue to add to this guide in the future.

Interested in attending a live webinar on AI? Please see our previous blog post to find out more about the two webinars currently offered by the library!

A frequent question we have received regarding the updated interface for EBSCOhost is how to export records to RefWorks or other citation managers. In the old interface, there was an Export link on each record page for this. Please be aware that in the new interface, you first have to click on the Cite button to find the Export Citation option.

To learn about other differences between the old and new interfaces, make sure to check out this comprehensive FAQ!

EBSCOhost updates now live

As of January 7, 2025, NavigatorSearch and EBSCOhost databases have gone live with a new look and a fresh, modern interface that aims to enhance your research experience and improve accessibility. We are in the process of updating our support materials to reflect this change. Make sure to check out this video for help using the new interface, and consider joining one of our drop-in sessions if you have any questions!

Please be aware that this updated interface is not specific to National University Library. It is a required update for all libraries that use EBSCOhost databases.

If you saved articles and other resources to your EBSCO folder, these will have transferred to your Saved folder in the new interface, except for articles saved in custom folders. These need to be moved manually. If you haven't done this yet, it's not too late. Please see this FAQ for information on how you can make sure that resources saved to custom folders are transferred over to your account in the new interface.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback regarding the update, please let us know. Thank you!

Class-based students and faculty, please be aware that a small change has been made to the Library link in NU Brightspace. Previously, it would link to a custom library landing page, but unfortunately, this page had become outdated and difficult to maintain. Taking this, and other factors, into consideration, we decided to update the Library link to now point to the library homepage. This will help to reduce confusion and also ensure that users have the latest resources.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free borrowing service for NU students, faculty, and staff that allows you to request articles, books, and other materials when not available in full-text in the Library. We've just gone live with two new updates that we are excited to announce.

First, anyone with an nu.edu email address (including class-based students) can now create an interlibrary loan account to manage requests. This was previously only available to those with an ncu.edu email address. Second, when using NavigatorSearch, you will now see an ILL request link under results. Clicking this link will take you to your ILL account and start auto-populating a request form for you, helping to make the whole request process much faster and more streamlined.

We hope you enjoy these changes! Learn more about Interlibrary Loan here.

Frameworks are a core component of doctoral dissertations, but we've found that some students find it challenging to understand what they are, how they work, and how to locate them. To address this, the library has developed a new video series on locating theoretical and conceptual frameworks. Learn more and check out the videos here.

The Open Educational Resources and Curriculum Support (OERCS) team in the library has done some incredible work this past year. By getting involved in the course development process and replacing costly textbooks with library-sourced materials and open educational resources, they have helped make learning more affordable here at National University. Check out the infographic below to learn more about what the OERCS team has accomplished!

Starting on April 1, 2024, Smart Search will be going away. This was the library's universal search tool for NU (class-based) students. It is being replaced by NavigatorSearch, which uses EBSCO Discovery Service. We've posted an informative video on our Credible Sources page where you can learn more. View it here.
