This study emphasizes that research and theory on couples’ communication patterns is largely based on western couples. As a result, they look at patterns that emerge in Chinese newlyweds. They identify three classes that relate to marital satisfaction. This study helps us to reflect on how we might need to approach adapting Gottman Method couples therapy as well as other couple therapy models.
