Legal Research, Analysis and Writing

H. Putnam & Jennifer R. Albright, Legal Research, Analysis and Writing (4th ed. 2019).

Read Chapter 18. Chapter 18 focuses on briefs and memoranda submitted to the court in a case. This chapter compares and contrasts interoffice memoranda, which are written in an objective voice, and court memoranda and briefs, which are written persuasively, i.e., for the purpose of persuading the court that the writer’s Client’s position is meritorious. The chapter also distinguishes the elements of a trial brief from the elements of an appellate brief.
