Suter, W. N. (2012). Educators as critical thinkers: The value of educators as reflective practitioners. In Introduction to educational research: A critical thinking approach (pp. 3-30). SAGE.
As noted in the week’s lesson, this first chapter of Suter’s book may be useful in determining the research worthiness of the study you are considering. Pay special attention to the discussion regarding evidence-based research in education and data mining.

Salkind, N. J. (2010). Encyclopedia of research design (Vols. 1-0). SAGE.
This resource is a nice supplement to the CITI modules. It gives a high-level overview of key themes in research ethics, autonomy, conflicts of interest, and informed consent. Pay particular attention to the section on “The Art of Ethical Judgment.”

This video (12:51) supplements the CITI modules. It discusses the role of the Institutional Review Board (IRB). It also gives specific considerations in informed consent, coercive relationships as to process, and language for participants and parents.

Spencer, G. (2017). Grace Spencer discusses participatory research [Video]. Retrieved from SAGE Research Methods.
This video resource (23:28) gives a high-level overview of the context specific to research involving children. This is especially useful to those contemplating working with this population.
