Family-Supportive Supervisor Behaviors and Employees’ Life Satisfaction: The Roles of Work-Self Facilitation and Generational DifferencesShi, Y., Xie, J., Zhou, Z. E., Tang, H., Ma, H., Zhang, H., & Zhang, N. (2020). Family-supportive supervisor behaviors and employees’ life satisfaction: The roles of work-self facilitation and generational differences. International Journal of Stress Management, 27(3), 262–272.
Shi and colleagues (2020) highlight the impact supervisors have on their employees' overall life satisfaction. Their results indicate two important factors that you should consider as you move into a management position. First, your behavior does impact their overall work and life satisfaction and determining how to best respond to employees is a fundamental aspect of being an effective manager. Second, there may be differences between generations, so appreciating cultural differences between employees is an important skill to acquire as a manager.
