Chapter 4 of this text introduces three of the most important considerations in writing technical documents: the audience, the scope, and the reason or purpose. You should be comfortable with the definition for each of these and the methods associated with addressing them before you begin any technical communication. Pay particular attention to the audience and how it should affect your message's depth and language.
