The Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Board (AMFTRB) is the governing body that develops and manages the national licensure examination process for marital and family therapists (LMFTs) in most states and jurisdictions. In order to practice independently, candidates must pass the MFT National Exam. The handbook outlines the six domains of practice recognized as areas of competence for MFTs. Our departmental course, module, and program learning outcomes (CLOs, MLOs, and PLOs) are guided by these domains, as well as standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). As valuable standards of excellence, these organizations aim at guiding programs to produce well-trained and marketable candidates for the workforce due to demonstrating competency in various areas.
