Read the Preface, How to Use This Book, and Chapters 1, 2 and 3 in the text. Think about your biases/preconceived notions regarding statistics. Consider your area of research interest and the types of constructs/variables related to your topic that could be assessed quantitatively (i.e. hours of exercise, depression level, etc.). Pay careful attention to the section on statistical significance and the following interpretation of meaningfulness. If something is significant, is it necessarily important?
