Lesson 2 Required Resources

Texts

As you read these chapters on “Ideas, Ideals, Norms and Laws” and “Sexuality,” you will notice significant overlap. Notions about sexuality are often part of “ideal” characterizations of masculinity and femininity. Both of these chapters also rely on sources that are generally “cultural.” That is, whereas other themes in this book will deal with “material” realities for women (their work, their domestic lives), these chapters look to sources that are produced largely by elites and discuss abstract ideals rather than actual people.
