One of the methods of income used by terrorists is the money made from drug trafficking. This resource from the United Nations Office on Drugs on Crime provides case study examples of terror groups using drugs to fund operations.

Terror groups use asymmetric tactics to execute attacks. Asymmetric warfare refers to a smaller fighting force (i.e. terror groups) using unconventional techniques to harass and attack a larger fighting force (i.e. a military or a government). In the case of terror groups, they often also target civilian populations and ‘soft targets.’ This video provides additional information on this topic.
