Code of Ethics

The NASW Code of Ethics is a set of standards that guide the professional conduct of social workers (NASW, 2021). The 2021 update includes language that addresses the importance of professional self-care (NASW, 2021). Moreover, revisions to Cultural Competence standard provide more explicit guidance to social workers (NASW, 2021). All social workers should review the new text and affirm their commitment to abide by the Code of Ethics (NASW, 2021).

Dr. Reamer is a national expert on social work ethics. These chapters provide excellent content on the importance and implementation of ethics in social work practice. Chapter One provides an overview of social work ethics, while Chapter Three provides an explanation of the decision making process Reamer recommends when social workers are faced with an ethical challenge.
