• In this 9-minute video, Professor David F. Bateman explores the history of special education laws and how these laws impact children with disabilities and all parts of the school system. This provides a good background to supplement the text.

• Read Chapter 4. This chapter examines the four parts of IDEA (Parts A, B, C, and D) and the core principles of the law. You will also examine funding mechanisms and enforcement and monitoring rules. The information in this chapter will be helpful in creating your assignment.
  
• Read the Appendix. Use the charts on these pages to help understand the changes that were made to IDEA in 2004. Each change has a title and section reference, a category of change, and a brief description of how the 2004 change impacts special education services.
