Note: As you read these chapters be aware of the ways they lay the groundwork for the idea that every person, regardless of position in society, has fundamental human rights for all. At the same time, these readings make a case for fundamental human rights. They examine how a culture's structures and values, including social, economic, political, and cultural exclusions, may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create privilege and power.
