This guide provides information for using NVivo.

Verifying the NVivo Version
  • Open NVivo on the computer. 
  • Click on the About NVivo on the blue navigation panel on the left side of the screen. 
  • Verify the version and release number of the program in the new dialog box that appears. The latest version of the program is NVivo 15. 
  • Skip to the step on Deactivating License before If the NVivo version is 15. 
  • Update the software by following the instruction in the next section if you have the 13th or 14th version of NVivo.

Checking for Available Software Updates
  • Click on File at the top of the NVivo landing page (as indicated in the image below)

  • Click on Product Info and then on Check for Software Updates

Downloading the Software Update
  • The following view will appear if a software update is available for you to download. Click on Download Now

Installing the Software Update
  • Click on Install Now as illustrated in the image below.

  • Let the update install. Do not click on Cancel.

Running the NVivo Installation Wizard for Software Update
  • Click Next once the dialog box for NVivo Installer appears and the option is available for selection.

  • Click on Update in the next view (as shown below).

  • Click in the appropriate circle to accept the terms of the license agreement.

  • Click Next in the subsequent view (once the option is available for selection).

  • Check the box for launching NVivo and click on Finish to complete the installation of the software update.
  • Follow the instructions in the next section of the guide to update the license key for the program.

Navigate to Manage License
  • Click on File at the top of the NVivo landing page (as indicated in the image below)

  • Click on Product Info, then on Manage License, and finally on Deactivate License

  • Click OK to confirm the deactivation.

  • The next screen will confirm the deactivation of license. Click OK to complete the process.

Activating NVivo with a New License Key
  • Open the NVivo program in your computer again. This will open up the dialog box shown below. 
  • Click on Provide Enterprise Key to Activate

  • Enter the new license key in the space provided for it in the dialog box for NVivo Setup. (The new license key has been updated in the NCUOne student portal under University Services Module -> Student Technology Resource Center.)
  • Check the box towards the bottom of the view to accept the terms of the license agreement. 
  • Click Next.

  • To complete the activation, click in the circle for Internet and the select Activate. The NVivo program will then be ready for use as usual.

  • A dialog box will open to confirm the activation of the new license key. Click OK to complete the process and start using the program. NVivo pop up window confirming license activation with the "OK" option highlighted.
