Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools empower students to discover scholarly research efficiently by analyzing existing articles to identify related works. These tools can sift through extensive databases to uncover connections that traditional library searches might miss. By providing summaries and visualizing citation relationships, AI helps you to better navigate complex academic literature. In fact, NU encourages faculty and students to embrace the innovative use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance the educational experience.
However, when using AI in academic research, please refer to the Student–Faculty Usage Guidelines for Generative AI Tools at NU to facilitate the responsible and ethical use of AI in the classroom.
Also note that the AI tools mentioned are below are not exhaustive and new tools are constantly being developed.
As a reminder, AI must be used ethically. The Academic Success Center and the Library do not provide support for the use of these tools.
We will assist you in understanding the ethical use of AI and citing your work after using these tools. Here are just a few free use AI tools.
Enter a research article and Connected Papers will build a graph of similar papers in the field. Use the prior works feature to find papers that were most commonly cited by the papers in the graph. Use the derivative works feature to find papers that cited many of the papers in the graph.
Simply search for your topic and select an article, or start with a specific article, and Litmaps will find other relevant articles based on connection.
Use the Find Papers feature to enter a research question or topic and retrieve a summary of the top four papers related to that inquiry. Scroll down to build a table of extracted article components, including methodology, limitations, theoretical framework, future research, and others.
