Section 2 Overview

The most significant aspect of the doctoral project or dissertation-in-practice is the research design. Constructing a sound design is akin to building a strong foundation for a building. All the renovations to other building structures may look nice but with a flawed foundation, the building will ultimately fail. The same is true for building a doctoral project or dissertation-in-practice, if the design is flawed the project will fail, despite wonderful revisions to the other pieces such as the writing, citations, or literature review.

This area of the Applied Doctoral Center describes and provides resources to assist in creating each research element. The goal is to ensure that the research design is sound, feasible. and includes all of the following aligned components - problem statement, purpose statement, and research questions.
