Beagan and Hattie interviewed individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ about their experiences navigating their religious identities and affiliations. The authors outline common outcomes related to confronting negative views held by many religious traditions regarding LGBTQ+ sexualities. This article provides the reader with another example of how culture, and specifically religious culture, can impact an LGBTQ+ experience.

Foster, Eklund, Brewster, Walker, and Candon discuss intersectionality as it relates to asexuality. Specifically, they review the interaction of race, gender, and an asexuality in identity formation.

Parra, L. A., & Hastings, P. D. (2018). Integrating the neurobiology of minority stress with an intersectionality framework for LGBTQ-Latinx populations. New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development.
Parra and Hastings provide a discussion of intersectionality as it applies to individuals who identify as both Latinx and LGBTQ+. Specifically, they discuss how these intersecting identities may lead to experiences of multiple forms of discrimination that impact stress levels and health outcomes. Readers will understand what intersectionality is and how it might apply to race/ethnicity.

Patel, S. (2019). “Brown girls can’t be gay”: Racism experienced by queer South Asian women in the Toronto LGBTQ community. Journal of Lesbian Studies, 23(3), 410–423.
Patel describes how racism is experienced by South Asian women who are also sexual minorities. This article highlights one way in which the LGBTQ+ community can discriminate against members within the community based on other demographic characteristics, such as race/ethnicity.

Toomey, R. B., Huynh, V. W., Jones, S. K., Lee, S., & Revels-Macalinao, M. (2017). Sexual minority youth of color: A content analysis and critical review of the literature. Journal of Gay & Lesbian Mental Health, 21(1), 3.
Toomey et al. review multiple articles that have addressed the experiences of sexual minority youth of color (SMYoC). Readers will understand how health outcomes differ for these youth when compared to sexual and racial/ethnic majority populations. There is also a discussion for the need for future research to focus on strengths rather than the predominant focus on negative outcomes for SMYoC that currently exists in the literature.
