This resource also discusses the evolution of qualitative research as well as the role of qualitative research in advancing knowledge in the field of education. Pay particular attention to Segment 4 on the relationship between theory and methods, Segment 5 on the need to be explicit in defining the framework, and Segment 10 on how theoretical frameworks inform research.

This video (2:50) defines the role of the research question in your research and the iterative nature of the question in an evolving study proposal. Emphasis is placed on evaluating the value of the question to the field as opposed to a personal interest of the researcher. The focus is on quantitative research, including the consideration of variables in formulating the question.
