Introduction to Your StudyBloomberg, L. D., & Volpe, M. (2008). Introduction to your study. In L. D. Bloomberg & M. Volpe, Completing your qualitative dissertation: A roadmap from beginning to end (pp. 32-44). SAGE.
This resource provides an overview of Chapter 1 of the five-chapter dissertation (PhD). Some of this information also applies to Section 1 of the dissertation-in-practice (EdD). Pay particular attention to the discussion of alignment of the problem, purpose, and research questions. Although written from primarily a qualitative research perspective, the section on problem statement applies universally to educational research, including the capstone project of the EdS degree. This reading also provides a primer for the role of the theoretical or conceptual framework in research.
