Connectivism: A Learning Theory for the Digital AgeSiemens, G. (2005). Connectivism: A learning theory for the digital age. International Journal of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning, 2(1) 3-10.
Siemens, the founder of connectivism, discusses his learning theory and its relevance to distance and remote learning. He maintains that the classic learning theories (behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism) developed when technology did not exist. Therefore, while they have some applicability to the information age, the development of the Internet and other emerging technology calls for a learning theory that addresses technology and connectedness.
