The DSM-5-TR has an entire section on specific disorders that are often related to trauma. This section will give clear criteria to the multiple disorders that victims of trauma may experience. In addition, this source can be used for reference throughout the course. Within each section, there are numerous scholarly resources that can be applied to your assignments.

This article discusses Somali refugees who have come to the United States (U.S.). It discusses the mental trauma of this move, the cultural implications, as well as the most likely disorders: PTSD, depression, and anxiety. In addition, the trauma of the move itself discusses the possible events faced before moving to the U.S., such as torture, witness to a murder, poor health, shortage of food, and so forth. Please read pages 196 – 203 and pages 223 – 226.

This article shares an example of how trauma affects diverse cultures in specific ways. The research explores the disproportionate effect of COVID-19 on minorities. The disorders examined are post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and general anxiety. The results revealed a substantial increase of disorders within this population.
