Affordable Care Act Resources

  • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
    The agency that administers Medicare and the federal part of Medicaid. Unfortunately, the site is incredibly hard to navigate, and there is no well defined area that deals with PPACA overall (specific sites appear below). The most efficient way to search the site is generally to do a site: search in Google; e.g.: "affordable care act" AND Medicaid site:cms.gov 
    • Innovation Center at CMS
      This Center was established under PPACA to “test innovative payment and service delivery models to reduce program expenditures, while preserving or enhancing the quality of care” for Medicare, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) beneficiaries. 
    • CMS: Affordable Care Act [and HIPAA]
      CMS page on the parts of PPACA related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) 
    • The Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO)
      The agency within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) which "oversees the implementation of the provisions related to private health insurance." 
    • Hospital Quality Initiatives -- Overview
      The CMS page on the the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program, which will take effect in FY 2013 for hospital discharges that occur on or after October 1, 2012.
