Leadership Theory and Practice
Northouse, P. G. (2021). Leadership: Theory and practice (9th ed.). SAGE Publications, Inc.

  • Authentic leadership represents one of the newer areas of leadership research. It focuses on whether leadership is genuine and “real.” Authentic leadership focuses on the authenticity of leaders and their leadership. Servant leadership emphasizes that leaders should be attentive to the needs of followers, empower them, and help them develop their full human capacity. They build strong relationships with others, are empathic and ethical, and lead in ways that serve the greater good of followers, the organization, the community, and society at large. Adaptive leadership is about how leaders encourage people to adapt – to face and deal with problems, challenges, and changes. Adaptive leadership focuses on the adaptations required of people in response to changing environments. Adaptive leaders prepare and encourage people to deal with change. There is very little theoretical research that has been done on the nature of leadership ethics. Ethics plays a central role in the leadership process. Because leadership involves influence and leaders often have more power than followers, they have an enormous ethical responsibility for how they affect others.
