Transitioning From the OLD DIS Sequence to the NEW DIS sequence - July 2025 - October 2025

Dear students,

The integration of the new Doctoral Record is complete. Those of you who are taking a DIS 9100 should ignore this message.

I want to discuss the process with you so that you don't get confused or feel overwhelmed. If you have further questions, please direct them to your Chair or advisor, who can connect you with the Office of Graduate Studies for additional assistance.

Please note that individual guidelines, DP-DM templates, and further explanations will be shared to you by your Chairs in the actual classes.

Significant Changes in a Nutshell:

  1. Numbering from 9901,2,3,4 we are moving to 9100,9200, 9300 and 9400
  2. The Doctoral record is NEW ( different Database record), if you are in the middle of the sequence:
    1. You may just enter an EMPTY DR, and do not worry, what you have completed and approved for still holds.
    2. Your Chair will ensure that the Chapter shows as approved in the new DR.
    3. Your Chair will let you know if there is anything that is needed from you, but we have all your records.
  3. All extension courses are now 12 weeks long.
  4. In 9100, Chapters 1 and 2 should be completed in 9100. Note that this creates a bottleneck, and we will address the issue with each student. It is crucial to keep good records of your readings and engage in the Literature Review synthesis as soon as possible. Special arrangements can be made, provided the APD approves them.
  5. In 9200, you have an extra requirement, a DP presentation, that will be an Oral Presentation of the Prospectus to your Chair and your SME.
  6. The DP-DM-DS is updated – minor changes.
