In this article, the author introduces a lesson plan model that includes a detailed evaluation rubric and practical strategies for each phase of the 5E model—Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate—designed to affirm students’ identities, promote inclusivity, and boost engagement. The article includes examples showing how culturally responsive strategies can be embedded into inquiry-based learning, using gender-paired collaboration, real-life connections, student choice, and multiple assessment options. Ultimately, the article empowers educators to modify conventional science lessons to foster equity and deeper student learning.
