This article presents a detailed review of how common it is for standard medical recommendations to change or not be based on evidence. There is an extensive list of medical recommendations that have been changed, which highlights the importance of utilizing current, empirically supported interventions to avoid harm and maximize good.

This article discusses an example of partnering with faith-based communities to work toward addressing health disparities in obesity. This article also includes an example of applying a socio-ecological framework (discussed in week 2) to conceptualize intervention components in this context.

Kim, Y., Vazquez, C., & Cubbin, C. (2023). Socioeconomic disparities in health outcomes in the United States in the late 2010s: Results from four national population-based studies. Archives of Public Health, 81(1).
This research looked at four nationally representative datasets to examine socioeconomic disparities in respondent-rated poor health across all age and race/ethnicity groups. Some socioeconomic disparities in poor health appeared to have decreased over time, but there are still issues to be addressed.

This article considers ethical issues that can surround workplace wellness programs including issues related to autonomous decision-making under financial incentives, the importance of evidence-based intervention, unexpected consequences of health promotion programs, and disparities among workers in workplace wellness initiatives.
