The NU Library has created ten student learning outcomes (SLOs) to ensure NU students and graduates are equipped with the information literacy skills needed in both their academic and career journeys. These SLOs were created after reviewing the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, as well as digital literacy, metaliteracy, media literacy, and artificial intelligence (AI) literacy frameworks.
These SLOs are used to create NU Library webinars, tutorials, infographics, handouts, and more, and can be used by faculty to select the appropriate information literacy training for course assignments and research projects.
Learn more about our new Information Literacy Framework and how it benefits NU students.
The NU Library offers tutorials and videos covering every aspect of the research process. Each tutorial and video maps to one or more of the information literacy student learning outcomes. Become a research expert today! Available on-demand, 24/7.
The Library Research Guides, also called LibGuides, are a collection of subject-specific guides and instructional how-to guides. Each degree specialization has its own Library Guide, where a subject librarian has provided lists of subject-focused databases, journals, books, dissertations, and more. These subject guides are a great starting point for becoming familiar with resources in that discipline.
Students, faculty, and staff may register to attend various live library workshops each month, including Library Orientation, Advanced Search Skills, RefWorks Power Hour, and the Library Dissertation Toolbox Series. Joining a live session is an excellent way to engage with library staff members and get answers to your library questions. Attendees to live sessions will also be provided with a link to the session recording. To register for upcoming live sessions, see the Library Events Calendar
Librarians are available to make class presentations tailored to your course research needs. We can provide synchronous and asynchronous instruction for your students.
To request a library presentation for your class, please use the Faculty Request for Library Instruction form.
