Academic Research

The ultimate goal of academic research and writing is to demonstrate your ability to identify, analyze, and synthesize current research, key theories and theorist, and foundational studies into your own research.  It is this connection with a community of scholars that enriches your project.

Academic research includes the following:

  • Acknowledges impact of research by scholars within the discipline
  • Ethically gives credit to sources (cite it)
  • Follows the style guide used by your discipline (APA, MLA, Chicago, or AMA)
  • Incorporates the formal style of writing (3rd person / past tense)
