George Washington University has put out calls for papers on "Evolving Global Terrorism and Security Challenges".

The Program on Extremism at The George Washington University has issued a new call for papers for its upcoming publication, Terrorism in Transition: Global Extremism, Radicalization, and the Future of Security. This thematic issue aims to address pressing questions surrounding the evolving nature of global terrorist threats, the integration of modern technologies into extremist activities, and the practical measures for countering violent extremism. Scholars, researchers, and practitioners are invited to contribute original, research-driven papers with actionable insights.

Abstracts are due by May 20, 2025 and authors of accepted papers will receive a compensation of USD 1,000 per paper."

George Washington University goes on to note:

"We encourage original submissions addressing one or more of the following topics:

ISIS and Terrorism in Key Regions

• The resurgence and activities of ISIS in Africa, Afghanistan, and the Middle East.
• Strategies, operations, and regional impacts of ISIS affiliates.
• The current state of ISIS leadership and organizational structure.
• Systems of communication and coordination across ISIS leadership and regional branches.
• Lone wolf attacks, patterns, motivations, indicators/warnings, and prevention of lone wolf terrorist attacks in Europe and the United States.

Online Radicalization and Modern Technology

• The role of social media and digital platforms in radicalization and recruitment.
• Strategies for combating online extremist propaganda and radicalization.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Terrorism

• Potential terrorist applications of artificial intelligence.
• Countermeasures and ethical considerations regarding AI-driven terrorism threats.

Abstract Submission Deadline: May 20, 2025
Notification of Acceptance: June 10, 2025
Full Paper Submission Deadline: September 1, 2025
Publication Date: November 2025

Submission Process:

Interested authors should submit an abstract (300–500 words) stating their research question, methodology, key arguments, and a brief biography (150 words). Full papers will be carefully reviewed and may be subject to editing before publication.

Maritime Risk Symposium (MRS25) are:

• How is the geo-strategic importance of the Arctic changing and what are the implications for U.S.

This program invites community college and university students (sophomore or above) to serve a 1-year term on the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA’s Board of Advisors. Selected Rising Leaders will work directly with experienced board members, participate in committees, attend YMCA events, and contribute to community initiatives in Southeast San Diego — all while building valuable leadership, collaboration, and decision-making skills.  Upon completion of their term, the Rising Leader will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship toward their educational pursuits.

The Human Exploitation Rescue Operation (HERO) Child-Rescue Corps Program is seeking candidates for a one-year PAID internship at computer forensic laboratories in the DHS/ICE Homeland Security Investigations law enforcement offices throughout the United States. This program is designed to combat and prevent child exploitation and is open to wounded, ill, and injured veterans and transitioning service members who have or expect to receive a VA disability rating. 

As a part of the program, interns will attend 3 weeks of indoctrination training and 10 weeks of computer forensics training in Fairfax, VA. The indoctrination training includes vital new employee training and agency familiarization. This position is designed to support HSI Special Agents as they investigate criminal activity.

Are you, or do you know a promising student who could present at ARC2025, taking place April 2 – 4, 2025 at the Hyatt Regency in Orange County, CA?  WSCUC believes student perspectives are critical in conversations about the vision, tools, and shared commitment to student success.  

We invite full-time students who are not full-time employees at any higher education institution to submit a poster proposal that builds on the conference theme and highlights exemplary practices and fresh approaches. Special consideration will be given to proposals addressing the following tracks: 

•    Success for all students
•    Postgraduation outcomes that matter
•    Accreditation in action
•    Higher education in the age of AI
•    Value and practice of innovation

Annual Hazards and Disasters Student Paper Competition

The Natural Hazards Center created the Annual Hazards and Disasters Student Paper Competition for undergraduate and graduate students in 2004 as a way to recognize and promote the next generation of hazards and disaster researchers.

Papers are judged on originality, writing quality, and knowledge of the topic. One undergraduate and one graduate winner each will receive $250, publication on the Natural Hazards Center website, and free registration to the Natural Hazards Workshop and the Researchers Meeting.

Eligibility

Papers can present current research, literature reviews, theoretical arguments, or case studies. Eligible topics include floods and floodplain management, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, climate change, warning systems, hazard mitigation, emergency management, vulnerability, risk communication, and other topics related to the social and behavioral aspects of hazards and disaster research.

• The author must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, or within one year of gradaution, when submitting a paper. Students who are affiliated with the Natural Hazards Center are not eligible to apply.
• Papers must be authored by an individual student and cannot be co-authored with another person.
• Papers cannot be under consideration or accepted for publication at the time of submission.
• Papers presented or submitted for presentation at professional meetings are allowable.
• Papers must be submitted as a double-spaced Word document, in 12-point Calibri font, and less than 25 pages (~6,500 words) excluding references. Papers that are not formatted correctly or are over 25 pages will be disqualified.
• Papers must include a brief abstract, no longer than 250 words, that provides an overview of the paper. The abstract does not count toward the page limit.
• Winning submissions will be edited for Natural Hazards Center style and length before publication.

Judging

Papers will be judged for originality and content, as well as writing quality. Well-organized and logical theses or arguments that are engaging, demonstrate the author’s knowledge and ability to integrate a broad scope of resources, and demonstrate strong grammatical and spelling skills will be favored.

The winning author will earn $250, free registration to the Workshop, and a commemorative plaque in addition to having their photo, paper title, and paper abstract featured in the Workshop program.

Academic Integrity

Submissions must adhere to the University of Colorado Honor Code. Students are encouraged to use in-text citations, footnotes, or endnotes to reference information sources.
