Review the resources listed below to prepare for this week’s assignments. The resources may include textbook reading assignments, journal articles, websites, links to tools or software, videos, handouts, rubrics, etc.

Sustainability: A Comprehensive Foundation

In Chapter 1 of your text, you will learn about the three essential aspects of Sustainability (i.e., Economics, Society, and Environment), as was initially defined by the Brundtland Report. This will help you to understand the truly interdisciplinary nature of “Sustainability” and how their overlap has defined the “Sustainability Paradigm” used by the international community.

Ducks Unlimited Story

After viewing the video, The Ducks Unlimited story documentary, you will be able to describe the unique 75 years, modern-day, wetlands conservation partnership between hunters and environmentalists. You will learn how their vision of “wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever” maps to the main sustainability premise of the Brundtland Report. You should spend time exploring their Wetland Conservation website at https://www.ducks.org/wetland-conservation noting their “Waterfowl Research” and “Land Protection” programs.

After viewing this video, you should have a better appreciation of why sustainability partnerships are needed, and that sustainability efforts can be found in some very interesting partnerships..

Week 5 Resources

After reading this journal article, you will be able to describe how “Bioremediation can be used in environmentally sustainable and cost-effective technology for the cleanup of petroleum-polluted soils and coasts.  You will understand how this method can achieve the complete degradation of pollutants by naturally occurring organisms.
