The Psychopathy Checklist (PCL) is the gold standard for assessing psychopathy and is widely used within the field of forensic psychology. While the PCL offers many advantages in assessing psychopathy and risk for future violence, Larsen et al. (2020) suggest that it is not as effective as once believed. This article demonstrates that knowledge in this field is continually evolving, which is a primary reason you must continue to be informed of up-to-date research.

Sánchez et al. (2019) clarifies the difference between terms that are often confused with psychopathy, including antisocial personality disorder and conduct problems. They further dispute a commonly held understanding that high intelligence is a characteristic of psychopathy. Thus, you will have a clearer understanding of this disorder.
