This theoretical framework is one of the most important aspects of the research process yet it is often misunderstood by students. This article uses the metaphor of the “blueprint” of a house to explain the application of a theoretical framework in research. Steps for how to conceptualize a theoretical framework and integrate it into the research process are described.
Applying Cultura in the Community College Counseling Practice

This study explored the counseling experiences of 26 first-generation community college students. The research findings suggest a need to improve community college counseling services to include guidelines for applying culture (culture) to community college counseling that can assist in relationship building between students and counselors as well as students’ preferred counselor characteristics that may be used by hiring committees.

Interrupting Racism provides school counselors with a brief overview of racial equity in schools and practical ideas that a school-level practitioner can put into action. This book “walks” readers through the current state of the achievement gap and racial equity in schools and views issues around intention, action, white privilege, and implicit bias. Later chapters include interrupting racism case studies and stories from school counselors about incorporating stakeholders into the work of racial equity. Activities, lessons, and action plans promote self-reflection, staff-reflection, and student-reflection and encourage school counselors to drive systemic change for students through advocacy, collaboration, and leadership.
