Chapters 1 through 4 of Gordis Epidemiology introduce the reader to the major goals of epidemiology at the population as well as the clinical level. Chapter 2 discusses the dynamics of disease transmission and how the mode of transmission may influence the presentation of disease in the individual as well as the pattern of spread through the community. In Chapters 3 and 4, the reader will learn about the major measures of morbidity and mortality and some strategies to compare the extent of disease in dissimilar populations.
