These chapters discuss observational studies in epidemiology, including two of the most common: cohort and case-control studies. You will encounter a detailed discussion comparing these two study designs and under what circumstances one would be preferable over the other. Chapters 12 and 13 examine methods to compare disease risk in terms of the relative impact of one exposure versus another and to approximate the potential effectiveness of public health interventions.
