Week 1 Topic: Management Information Systems (MIS)

Management Information Systems (MIS) --  The integration of computer hardware and software applications for collecting, manipulating and presenting information so that it can be used in the management of organizations. Such systems can be vast, indeed, if they attempt to manage all the information coming into and leaving the organization.

Week 2 Topic: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) -- A business management system that integrates all aspects of the business. Sales, finance, quality control, accounting, manufacturing and all other enterprise functions are integrated and managed, usually with the aid of a collection of software applications.  With ERP, each department still has its own software or software modules. The difference is that they can now communicate with each other, as they are all part of the same system.

Week 3 Topic: Knowledge Management (KM)

Knowledge Management (KM) -- One of the most influential new concepts in business today. A logical follow-up to the concept of intellectual capital, knowledge management is based on the idea that companies should make better use of their existing knowledge – everything from licences and patents to internal processes and information about customers. The concept has been steadily gaining ground since the early 1990s.

Week 4 Topic: Supply Chain Management (SCM)

Supply Chain Management (SCM) -- Supply chain management combines logistics with strategy and is of increasingly vital importance to companies. It concerns the management of two-way flows of materials, finance, people and information along the chain from the raw materials to the customer. The concept is founded on the image of a chain with continual links between the different stages.
