NSG460(A) Course Description

The Community Health clinical experience is designed to give the student practical experience in community health nursing that allows for the design, implementation and evaluation of healthcare services for individuals, families an communities with the aim of improving health status. Students will draw upon nursing theories and frameworks to create appropriate interventions. The students will be able to complete a community assessment and determine the strengths and opportunities that exist in the community. Special focus will be given to vulnerable populations in low-resource communities. The student will be introduced to nursing's role in promoting and protecting the health of populations in accordance with The American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Public Health Nursing Practice. Completion of this course partially fulfills the California Board of Nursing requirements for certification as a Public Health Nurse. (Corequisite: NSG 460.)
