This 30-minute video is a reminder of why you should conduct action research. Professor Eileen Piggot-Irvine explains action research as research that doesn't conclude with data collection but continues through an action in response to the research findings. It is a clear reminder that action research can be conducted in a classroom and does not have to be the traditional research formally implemented in a lab, yet is just as rigorous and reputable. She discusses how action research can be utilized best and where it is going in the future. Piggot-Irvine also discusses some of the drawbacks of using action research. It is a refreshing reminder to end the course as you hopefully move out into your world and conduct your action research.

You will refer to this textbook throughout the course as it will provide you with essential information for each assignment highlighting the nature of action research, how to develop an action research project, collect data, analyze data, and how your project may be assessed. You should keep it on hand as you move the course and use it as a reference. For this week, you should review Chapters 6 and 7.

This text on action research provides a plethora of information and includes content on ethical consideration. Of specific interest to you for this week is Chapter one (pp. 1-13), Chapter 2 (pp. 41-52), and page 56. Within chapter one tips are provided to assess your problem of practice in SEL and to set clear goals for your research question. Chapter 4 will provide a review of data collection tools. While on page 56, you will find a list to adhere to 10 specific ethical principles as you plan your action research study.
