Sexual violence is a significant problem on college campuses that has been made visible by media attention to the MeToo movement. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 addresses discrimination (including sexual violence). The author examines if Title IX applies to campus visitors.

Regional accreditation remains a central method of accountability in the United States and the gatekeeper to federal financial aid. Without such funding, many colleges and universities would not survive. Prior research suggests that Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) face disproportionate accreditation sanctions compared with other institutions.

The author conducted four thought experiments about possible college sexual assault prevention strategies based on personal experience with campus administrators and sexual assault prevention specialists, review of existing research, and conversation with undergraduates and graduate students engaged in sexual assault prevention.

This article discusses the decline of private colleges in the U.S. and in some cases, their closures and mergers. The author also includes information on additional challenges that face private colleges and universities.

Cyphert, A. B. (2018). The devil is in the details: Exploring restorative justice as an option for campus sexual assault responses under Title IX. Denver Law Review, 96(1), 51–85.
The author is of the opinion that as in so many promising programs, the devil is in the details here [Title IX], and any collegiate restorative justice program that addresses sexual violence must be properly designed and properly facilitated. To make it available as a meaningful option for survivors, we must offer some protection to the accused student.

Is there a monetary penalty for a student who graduates from a for-profit college/university vs. public or private higher education institution. The authors investigate this question.

For-profit higher education institutions (FPHEIs) remain controversial academic entities. Criticisms include recruiting techniques, and not preparing successful entry into the workforce.

Ontiveros, J. (2020). Connecting rural students to higher education. Vermont Connection, 41, 56–66.
This article examines the challenges and issues of access to higher education by rural students. The author notes that rural students are less likely to pursue college, and ”must navigate obstacles in academic and student life differently from their peers” (p. 56). In addition, recommendations are discussed that can be taken by recruiters and admission officers to motivate rural students to attend a higher education institution.
