Narratives of Gender, Sexuality, and Community in Three Generations of Genderqueer Sexual Minorities Barsigian, L.L., Hammack, P.L., Morrow, Q.J., Wilson, B.D.M., & Russell, S.T. (2020) Narratives of gender, sexuality, and community in three generations of genderqueer sexual minorities. Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. Advance online publication.
Barsigian and his colleagues present a qualitative sample of 30 genderqueer sexual minorities from the United States who represent three different generations. The interviews uncovered three major themes across all of the generations having to do with challenges in expressing their gender identity and sense of self, the management of stigma and oppression in their daily lives, as well as the difficulties they faced in establishing supportive LGBTQ communities.
