- Read Chapter 1, What is Qualitative Resarch and Why Might You Consider Doing Such Research, and Chapter 3, How to Start a Qualitative Research Study, for an overview and review of qualitative methodology considerations. While Yin is considered a seminal source for qualitative research design, in this text, they provide suggestions and processes that can be incorporated into most designs.

Read pages 235-245 of Chapter 7 (the corresponding section in the 4th edition was first introduced to you in EDR8400). This section of the chapter provides details regarding a theoretical or conceptual framework in qualitative research. Specifically, it describes how the framework is used in qualitative data analysis and the role and function that it serves in the analytic process.

- This article explores Critical Race Theory (CRT) as a tool of analysis in qualitative research with marginalized groups. The authors explain how CRT can be used as an analytical tool in educational research, illustrating how various tenets of this theory can be used to examine qualitative data through the analysis of several lenses or “counter-stories.” It is an example of how a theoretical framework should be integrated into a research study.
