The Military Power Hour, hosted by our Senior Alumni Navigator, Dr. C. Bruce Gardner (36 years of active service), is open to all military community members and their supporters. Although the Military Power aims to help NU students plan effectively and change decisively, its indirect purpose is to aid NU Military Students in maintaining their course and adjusting as needed. Thus, this session is framed by NU Military students’ needs and desires vice an agenda formulated by the facilitator that misses the heart of the matter.

Hi! I’m Stephanie Johnson, a Marine Corps veteran and your librarian! I studied Korean at the Presidio of Monterey in California, got my MLIS from Florida State, and my MPS in Digital Curation & Management from Chapel Hill. I currently reside in the Deep South, and I come from a military family. Both of my parents served in the Navy, so you can imagine how that conversation went when I told them I wanted to join the Marines! :) To this day, I count among my very closest friends the ones I made during my service.
I understand the challenges of attending school while enlisted, and also the challenges while not enlisted. We all put a great deal of stress on ourselves to be the absolute best, and this can take a mental and physical toll on us. As your library liaison, my goal is to be a person you can come to who understands the myriad of issues you may face. I also love helping people conduct research on military topics, so there's that, too!
The biggest thing I'd like you to remember is this: You are not alone on this journey. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything. I may not be able to solve every problem, but I can certainly provide a listening ear and guide you to the best individuals to contact for your questions.
Note: There is a tab on this page called Special Content Topics. Items will be added over time, so feel free to visit this page often. It is important to note that these particular topics have some content warnings. I did not want to have all of the topics on the front page, so to speak, so know that when you click on that tab, there may be topics that can cause some reactions. None of the content itself is on that page though, just the topics. You will need to click through to see the content. Please let me know if you have any questions.
*The School of Business & Economics (SoBE) & the School of Technology & Engineering (SoTE) are housed under one college called the College of Business, Engineering, & Technology (CoBET). However, each school operates independently, and therefore has its own guides and librarian.
