Innovations in the Practice of Culturally Competent Suicide Risk Management Chu, J., Hoeflein, B. T. R., Goldblum, P., Bongar, B., Heyne, G. M., Gadinsky, N., & Skinta, M. D. (2017). Innovations in the practice of culturally competent suicide risk management. Practice Innovations, 2(2), 66–79.
Chu et al. (2017) discuss the Cultural Theory and Model of Suicide as well as the Cultural Assessment of Risk for Suicide (CARS). They also provide a case example that compares the risk assessment results and risk management plan using traditional methods of suicide risk assessment versus the CARS. Students will see how culturally responsive suicide risk assessment is better able to effectively assess for risk factors and develop a more effective intervention as a result.
