A How-To Guide on Using Nexis Uni

Basic Search

To browse content within Nexis Uni, select "All Sources" under the "Menu" tab. Accessing the "All Sources" list is helpful when you want to search specific sources, or if you want to browse what is available within the database.

Sources are organized alphabetically. Use the filters on the left panel to narrow down by category, jurisdiction, practice areas & topics, and publisher. Click on the source title to browse content or add as a filter to search within the publication. Click on the "i" to the right to learn about scope and content.

In addition to searching within specific sources, you have the option to search within one of the three listed disciplines. To conduct a subject-specific search, select "Menu" and then click on the desired subject. You can also click on one of the subject boxes at the bottom of the search page.

To conduct a basic keyword search, enter your search terms using natural language searching or terms and connectors into the search box at the top of the page. For general search tips, please see the General Search Tips box to the left of this page. You may also click on "Tips" located beneath the search box on the Nexis Uni home page. 

You have the option of searching all of Nexis Uni or adding a jurisdiction or other optional filter. Please see the Advanced Search section to learn more about applying filters to your search.

Discover Topics

Business Topic Page

The Business topic pages allow you to conduct subject-specific searches within Nexis Uni. You also have the option of:

  • Creating company dossiers;
  • Searching for company information;
  • Reviewing content within featured publications such as BMI Country Risk Reports, Hoover's Company Reports, etc.;
  • Reviewing recent business news;
  • Reading recent Supreme Court business-related opinions;
  • Searching through recent business-related law review articles; and
  • Browsing recent business blog posts. 

Criminal Justice Topic Page

On the Criminal Justice topic page, you can conduct subject-specific searches within Nexis Uni. You also have the option of:

  • Reviewing recent news; 
  • Searching State and Federal Statutes; 
  • Searching within featured publications such as ABA Criminal Justice and US Attorney General Opinions;
  • Browsing recent Supreme Court decisions
  • Reviewing landmark Supreme Court cases;
  • Reading recent law review articles; and 
  • Browsing university-related news. 

Political Science Topic Page

On the Political Science topic page, you can conduct subject-specific searches within Nexis Uni. You also have the option of:

  • Reviewing political science-related recent news; 
  • Searching State and Federal legislation; 
  • Searching within featured publications such as USCS - Constitution of the United States and the GAO Red Book;
  • Browsing recent Supreme Court decisions;
  • Reading recent law review articles; and 
  • Browsing political science blogs and social media.
