Regulations are rules promulgated by administrative and regulatory agencies that are created by Congress. These agencies hold semi-judicial hearings to review and discuss proposed regulations. Orders, regulations, and decisions made by these administrative and regulatory agencies have the force of law.
The Federal Register is the daily gazette for executive administrative rulings. All executive orders and administrative regulations published within the Federal Register are legally binding. The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is the "codification of the general and permanent rules and regulations published in the Federal Register" (Office of the Federal Register). The CFR is organized by subject and divided into 50 titles.
To access the Federal Register and Code of Federal Regulations, click on Menu and select All Sources. Select Administrative Codes and Regulations from the Category box located in the left panel. Next, select U.S. Federal from the Jurisdiction box. These selections will narrow the list of sources to the Code of Federal Regulations and the Federal Register as well as other related material. Click on the table of contents links to browse through each source.
To search for regulations, click on All Nexis Uni and select the Administrative Codes and Regulations Content Collection filter. Once you have narrowed down to this content collection, type your search terms into the search bar at the top.
Reviewing Results
Use the filters on the left panel to narrow down the search results. To search within Administrative Codes, select this option from the Category list. Likewise, there is an option to narrow down by Registers on this list. Other filters include Jurisdiction, Sources, and Practice Areas & Topics.
Alternatively, you may use the Legal Advanced Search template to conduct a search for Regulations and Registers. Select Administrative Codes and Regulations and select Registers or Regulations.
Reviewing Results
Use the left panel to narrow down search results. If you've selected a specific collection to search, i.e. Regulations, you will not see the Category filter on this panel. You may filter by Timeline, Jurisdiction, Agency, Source, and Practice Areas & Topics.
