Chapter 7 - Observational Methods Part 1 (pp. 243-286)
Chapter 7 includes information to assist individuals in conducting behavioral observations. Narrative recording, Interval recording, and event recording processes are examined. Rating scores are examined and processing through the different issues is examined.
Chapter 8 - Observational Methods Part 2 (pp. 287-324)
Chapter 8 includes a continued exploration of observational methods used for collecting behavioral data. This chapter includes observational coding systems, reliability and observational coding systems. The validity of observational coding systems is explored. Practices and processes to reduce errors in observations is provided. A section of this chapter is designated to address observing infants. Additional information is provided to assist with self-monitoring assessment. The process of reporting and commenting on behavioral observations is explored. Issues associated with observations of the types are explored.
Chapter 12 - Functional Behavior Assessment (pp. 411-432)
Chapter 12 includes information related to behavior assessment. The identification for Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is explored. The conditions that surround problematic behavior is examined. The process for conducting an FBA is provided and the function of the behavior is identified and examined. The assessment process (interviews, observations) for behavior assessment is provided along with developing a hypothesis to account for the problematic behavior.

Chapter 4 - Direct Behavior Observation (pp. 95-126
Chapter 4 includes information about exploring the processes of direct behavior observation. The basic principles and concepts are examined, which includes ecological assessments. The basic methods for behavioral observation are provided (narrative, analogue, and self-monitoring). Observational coding procedures are explored (event, interval, -whole and partial-interval recoding, and time-sampling) is explained. Duration and latency recording processes are examined. Different coding systems are examined. The use of technology in behavioral observations is shared. The reliability and validity in direct behavioral observations is provided.
