Chapter 3 - Assessment and Classification (pp. 69-93)
Chapter 3 includes information related to the classification systems. The DSM is reviewed along with IEP-related classifications. In the schools, you will assess children as it related to Educational Code and not DSM code, even though children will come to you with DSM-classified diagnoses. It is important to know the differences between DSM and the Educational Code as you will likely have to explain the differences to IEP teams.
Chapter 10 - Assessing Externalizing Problems (pp. 273-304)
Chapter 10 includes information about the processes of assessing externalized problems. Types of externalized problems can include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder (CD), etc. This chapter includes information about assessment tools designed to measure the behaviors associated with externalized problems.
Chapter 11 - Assessing Internalizing Problems (pp. 305-340)
Chapter 11 includes information about the process of assessing internal problems. Different internal problems reviewed in this chapter include depression, anxiety, and different challenges such as phobias, social withdrawal, and somatic issues. Assessment tools associated with measuring symptoms associated with these challenges are explored.
Chapter 13 - Assessing Social Skills and Social-Emotional Strengths (pp. 375-405)
Chapter 13 includes information related to assessing social skills and social-emotional strengths. Adaptive behavior and related skills are reviewed. The method for assessing social skills is explored.
Chapter 14 - Assessing Social and Emotional Behavior of Young Children (pp. 407-431)
Chapter 14 includes information related to assessing the social and emotional skills of young children.
