2. Fischer, J. M. (2014). Understanding remedies (3rd ed.).
This is another excellent summary of law from this series. This ebook is available in RedShelf, which you can access in the left navigation bar under the "Course Resources" tab.
This course covers the remedies available to successful litigants, including money damages, injunctive relief, restitution and more. This course looks at these remedies within a broad variety of subjects, including traditional common law causes of action in contract, tort and property as well as in family law, civil rights and constitutional law. Attention is paid to how the available remedies shape both the underlying substantive law and the parties’ litigation strategies. This course also examines defenses available against different types of remedies.
What does all that really mean? The course looks very closely at the wide range of remedies that an aggrieved party may seek. Once a legal wrong has been established, what relief can the plaintiff seek? What remedies are available? These remedies range from the commonplace recovery of compensatory damages (money) for harms caused to property or for personal injuries or for breach of contract to court orders. A party may be ordered by a court to cease certain conduct or to comply with specific commands. Remedies for failure to follow court orders (contempt) will also be examined.
