Before submitting an IRB application, all researchers must complete online training through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program. Please plan ahead when completing CITI training. CITI certification expires 3 years after the date of completion. Dissertation student researchers will need to ensure that their CITI training is valid until the end of their programs.
Dissertation Committee Chairs/Faculty Sponsors as well as faculty/staff researchers at NU, and any co-investigator/research assistants are required to obtain and hold current CITI certification at all times. If any study personnel that are required to meet the CITI training requirement are not affiliated with NU, they will need to create a CITI account (if they don't have one already) and choose to be affiliated with NU as an institution within CITI.
Please follow the instructions below to meet this requirement. If you experience technical issues with the CITI site, please contact CITI directly.
The current requirement for CITI training is the Social & Behavioral Educational (SBE) course (former NCU researchers) or the Researchers - Social and Behavioral Focus course (researchers that have always been affiliated with NU or any study personnel that are not affiliated with NU).
We will continue to accept either training certification with your IRB application, for all study personnel, as long as it has not expired!
